Alcune delle imprese più significative del panorama produttivo nazionale ed autorevoli istituzioni scientifiche impegnate nella ricerca di base ed applicata hanno dato vita al Contratto di Rete d’imprese Italian Variety Club – IVC. Si tratta di un ambizioso e virtuoso progetto per lo sviluppo di un programma di miglioramento genetico per la costituzione di varietà di uva da tavola adatte alla coltivazione nelle condizioni pedoclimatiche mediterranee, per aggiornare ed arricchire la gamma dell’offerta sul mercato. Il trasferimento dell’innovazione varietale e tecnica nel processo produttivo per lo sviluppo di nuovi prodotti ed il miglioramento della competitività delle imprese, sono le fondamenta di IVC. Nasce da questa comune e condivisa visione di sviluppo del settore e per il rafforzamento della filiera produttiva italiana dell’uva da tavola, coniugando insieme il patrimonio scientifico e le importanti dotazioni strutturali e tecniche delle istituzioni di ricerca alla grande capacità imprenditoriale di imprese valenti e credibili, che rappresentano al meglio il comparto ed il percorso evolutivo della coltura.

Some of the most important national producers and influential scientific institutions engaged in basic and applied research came together to create the Enterprise Network Agreement, Italian Variety Club – IVC. This ambitious and sound project aims to bring forward a program of genetic improvement in order to create table grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Mediterranean climate and to update and enrich the range of products available on the market. At the heart of the IVC Enterprise Network Agreement is the transfer of varietal and technical innovation to the production process in order to develop new products and increase business competitiveness. The IVC Enterprise Network was born from the common and shared vision for the development of this sector and for strengthening the Italian table grapes supply chain, by combining the scientific heritage and the important structural and technical facilities of research institutions with the great entrepreneurial nature of valued and trusted companies, which best represent the industry and the crop’s development path.

IL PROCESSO
TECNICO

Lo sviluppo del programma di miglioramento genetico si articola attraverso le seguenti fasi:

  • Realizzazione di incroci tra parentali definiti
  • Estrazione vinaccioli (per gli incroci tra varietà con seme), produzione ed allevamento semenzali
  • Embriocoltura in vitro (per gli incroci tra varietà apirene , acclimatamento ed allevamento semenzali
  • Analisi molecolari MAS (selezione di massa assistita) per selezionare genotipi apireni
  • Valutazione dei semenzali in campo di prima e seconda selezione
  • Selezione semenzali interessanti e loro propagazione per valutazione su più ampia scala
  • Caratterizzazione varietale e registrazione al Catalogo Nazionale delle Varietà di Vite
  • Procedure per la protezione brevettuale della varietà
  • Costituzione campi di piante madri
  • Diffusione commerciale

THE TECHNICAL
PROCESS

The development of the program for genetic improvement has the following stages:

  • Crossing between defined parents
  • Extraction of the grape seed (for crossing between varieties with seeds), seedling production and breeding
  • In vitro embryo culture (for crossing between seedless varieties, seedling acclimatisation and breeding
  • MAS molecular analysis (marker assisted selection) to select seedless genotypes
  • Evaluation of seedlings in the first and second selection fields
  • Selective seedling selection and their distribution so they can be evaluated on a larger scale
  • Varietal description and registration in the National Register of Vine Varieties
  • Procedures for patent protection of varietals
  • Establishing fields for stock
  • Commercialisation

  • Vigneto coperto di rete di 3 ha
    di superficie per la valutazione: di n. 15.000 genotipi costituiti, derivanti dalle attività d’incrocio 2015, 2016, 2017 (80 varietà utilizzate; più di 150 combinazioni di incrocio, più di 2.000 grappoli impollinati; più di 80.000 vinaccioli e 60.000 embrioni in coltura ottenuti)
  • Vigneto coperto di rete di 2 ha
    di superficie per la valutazione delle selezioni:
    – 200 genotipi costituiti dal Dipartimento di Agricoltura, Alimentazione ed Ambiente dell’Università di Catania con il quale è instaurata una collaborazione;
    – 100 candidate varietà in valutazione provenienti dagli incroci 2015
PERSONALE IMPIEGATO

Oltre al lavoro svolto
dagli amministratori e dai componenti del comitato tecnico scientifico
che orienta, pianifica e verifica le attività per l’attuazione del programma, dal 2016, sono stati impegnati ricercatori e tecnici formati all’interno della Università degli Studi di Bari ed operai agricoli specializzati.

 

RISULTATI DEL 2017
  • 25 combinazioni di incrocio varietà con seme X varietà apirene;
  • 15 combinazioni di incrocio tra varietà apirene;
  • 12 combinazioni di incrocio con varietà resistenti per l’ottenimento di progenie resistenti a malattie fungine.
What has been
achieved so far
  • Vineyard covered with a net of 3 ha for the evaluation of 15.000 established genotypes, deriving from crossing throughout 2015, 2016 and 2017 (80 varieties utilized; more of 150 hybrid combiations; more of 2.000 grafted grape bunches; 80.000 grapeseed and 60.000 embryos obtained.
  • Vineyard covered with a net of 2 ha for the evaluation of candidate varieties deriving from:
    – 200 genotypes from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the University of Catania with which a collaboration agreement for crossing was set up;
    – 100 selected genotypes or candidate varieties from crosses 2015.

In addition to the work carried out by the managers and members
of the scientific and technical committee, which coordinates, schedules and verifies activities
in order to update the program,
since 2016 were hired researchers
and specialists trained
at University of Bari and skilled agricultural workers.

 

2017 Results
  • 25 crossing combinations between seed X and seedless varieties;
  • 15 crossing combinations between seedless varieties;
  • 12 crossing combinations between resistant varieties to obtain progenies resistant to fungal diseases.
